If you live or work in an area where high-speed internet, such as DSL or cable broadband, isn’t available, you don’t have many options when it comes to your connection. In fact, for quite a long time, your only option was to endure the excruciatingly slow speeds of a dial-up connection. Luckily, you no longer have to suffer. Two more options are available for those in high-speed deprived areas. You can use a mobile broadband card provided by a cellular phone company or you can have satellite broadband internet installed.

Mobile broadband cards are offered by Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and others. These wireless companies offer you a small, light device – the card – that you plug into your laptop’s USB port. It allows you to use the internet wherever you can receive the company’s cellular signal. Mobile broadband cards are very easy to use and require practically no installation. Expect to pay anywhere from 30 to 60 dollars monthly and to sign a contract of up to two years. Most companies provide a 3G connection, which offers speeds of anywhere from three times that of dial-up to almost broadband – varying heavily depending on the strength of the signal.
